Standards of Quality for Family Strengthening & Support 2-Day Virtual Training

Registration will open May 13th at 8:30 AM (6 weeks before the training)

Description: FRCA adopted The Standards of Quality for Family Strengthening & Support in 2013. They are the first and only standards in the country to integrate and operationalize the Principles of Family Support Practice with the Strengthening Families Protective Factor Frameworks and its research-based, evidence-informed Five Protective Factors. The vision is that their implementation will help ensure that families are supported and strengthened through quality practice.

  • The Standards Certification Training, developed by the National Family Support Network (NFSN), is provided virtually by NFSN Member Networks in their geographic areas. FRCA is the only organization in Colorado that has been trained and authorized to conduct this training. The Certification Training is designed for all management and direct service staff, as well as for funders. Teams of Executive Directors, Managers, Coordinators, and Direct Service staff are highly encouraged to participate together because each has a key role to play in implementing the Standards effectively.
  • Each participant who successfully completes the training receives a certificate from the NFSN that is valid for two years.
  • Price per attendee: $200 for Non-members
  • Time Frame: Training is currently only offered virtually and takes place over two consecutive days (8:30 am-4:30 pm, 8:30 am-12:30 pm)

Please note registration closes 3 weeks before the training date due to the shipment of materials/manuals.

Administering the Colorado Family Support Assessment 2.0 using Motivational Interviewing Skills

Registration will open on May 27th at 8:30 AM (2 weeks before the training)

Non-FRCA Members, please see the “Non-FRCA member requirements” below.

Administering the Colorado Family Support Assessment 2.0 using Motivational Interviewing Skills

Training blends the skills of Motivational Interviewing (MI) and the steps to deliver the Colorado Family Support Assessment 2.0 (CFSA2.0). MI is a counseling technique used to help people identify their need for change and their readiness to make the change. MI is a participant-centered, self-directed approach and a great skill to have when working with families seeking support from an agency. This training helps workers and supervisors identify where individuals fall in the Stages of Change, recognize change talk, and develop the core MI skills, including, open questions, affirmations, reflective listening, and summarizing.

The CFSA2.0 is the primary assessment tool used by the Family Resource Center Association’s network to assess family strengths and needs, and monitor progress towards family self-reliance and increased conditions that protect children against mistreatment. Non-FRCA network agencies around the state have started to implement this tool into their assessments of families as well. The CFSA 2.0 consists of three sections: Part A assesses 14 self-reliance and family stability domains, including income, housing, transportation, food security, health coverage, etc. Part B assesses the five factors that protect against child maltreatment. Part C identifies areas where families would like to make a change and how ready they are to make the change. This part aids in mutual goal setting.

The most effective way to complete the CFSA2.0 is by building rapport and trust with the families. To do so, FRCA believes developing MI skills is the best way to engage families and partner with them in identifying areas they would like to change.

The virtual training is welcoming to all types of adult learners. It incorporates a variety of engaging activities (quiz questions, small group practice) designed to help learners develop the MI spirit and how to utilize core skills.

  • Price per attendee: $250 for Non-members
  • Time Frame: Training is currently only offered virtually, and takes place over two consecutive days (8:30AM-4:00PM)
  • Non-FRCA Member Requirements: You must purchase a ONE-TIME Non-FRCA Member CFSA2.0 Agency License Agreement ($500) and sign the License Agreement that will be emailed to you from [email protected] after purchase. If the licensing agreement is NOT purchased AND signed, you will not be permitted to attend the training. Please note: it may take 3-5 business days to receive the licensing agreement for signature.
  • Simultaneous Interpretation: Upon request, simultaneous interpretation will be offered during the training if the minimum of 3 participants is met. If interpretation cannot be provided, an FRCA staff member will reach out and provide the next steps.

Standards of Quality for Family Strengthening & Support *RECERTIFICATION*

Registration will open April 15th at 8:30 AM (6 weeks before the training)

Important: this specific training is a recertification. Please only register if you have already taken the Standards and only need to RENEW your certification after two years.

FRCA adopted The Standards of Quality for Family Strengthening & Support in 2013. They are the first and only standards in the country to integrate and operationalize the Principles of Family Support Practice with the Strengthening Families Protective Factor Frameworks and its research-based evidence-informed Five Protective Factors. The vision is that their implementation will help ensure that families are supported and strengthened through quality practice. FRCA is the only organization in Colorado trained and authorized to conduct this training.

The Standards are designed to be used by all stakeholders–public departments, foundations, community-based organizations, and parents–across different kinds of Family Strengthening and Family Support programs as a tool for planning, providing, and assessing quality practice. The Standards create common language and expectations in the Family Support and Strengthening field across different programs, such as Family Resource Centers, home visiting programs, and child development programs.

The certification lasts for two years.
