Making a Difference
Johnny's father lost his job due to company downsizing, and his mother was struggling with depression and anxiety. Because of the job loss, the family had no health insurance. Johnny, a preschooler who was delayed in his language development, often would misbehave and act out when his parents could not understand him.
With help from their local family resource center, the family enrolled Johnny in health insurance through the Child Health Plan Plus, got a scholarship for Johnny's mother to receive mental health services, and connected Johnny's father with a local workforce center. Johnny was tested and referred on to receive additional help with his language delay through the local school district. Today, Johnny's father has a full-time position with a local marketing company, his mother is working with counselors to address her anxiety and depression symptoms, and Johnny is enrolled in preschool and communicating much better.
